Douglas Water Authority Job Posting

Douglas Water Authority is looking for an Alabama Department of Environmental Management certified grade 3 or 4 Water Operator -OR- a person to spend 1 year training for this job. In either case the understanding should be that this job is a career for the long haul. Honesty, responsibility, intelligence, reliability, willingness to be trained and commitment are a must for this position. This position takes someone who can both work well with others and eventually be responsible enough to work alone. Helpful work experience would be mechanics, automation, electrical and information systems savvy. For those applicants that already have a Grade 3 or 4 certification the pay starts at $28.50 per hour. For a trainee the pay starts at $20 per hour, $21.50 after 90 days and $28.50 with the combination of serving 1 year on the job plus obtaining a Grade 3 Water Operators certification. Material and classes will be provided. There is potential for cost of living raises based on internal and external environmental factors.

The initial work schedule for certification trainees will be mostly Monday through Fridays. The certified operator work schedule will be 12 noon until 12 midnight Monday – Friday and 10 AM until 10 PM Saturday – Sunday followed by 7 days off. The weekly pay breaks down as 36 hours one week then 40 hours with 8 hours over-time the next, alternating.

Health Insurance Coverage: This position comes with Blue Cross & Blue Shield health insurance. DWA pays for 100% of the single coverage and 50% of the family portion. Retirement: The retirement is through Retirement Systems of Alabama (RSA) with DWA contributing 21.20% of the gross weekly wages and the employee contributing 7.50%.Vacation and sick days are accumulated based on time served in addition to 13 paid holidays per year.
